July 2010. Proper Records busiest release schedule ever.
Only just halfway through the year and we have releases already out or scheduled from Angelique Kidjo, Paul Brady, Dennis Locorriere, Andy McKee, Don McLean, The Texas Tornados, Elizabeth Cook, Mary Gauthier, Jimmie Vaughan, Willie Nelson, Dr. John, Bill Kirchen, Loudon Wainwright III, Los Lobos, David Rotheray, Richard Thompson, Pete Brown, YES, Paul Heaton, Dar Williams, Hot Club Of Cowtown, Huey Lewis & The News, Chris Barber and Jay Phelps.

July 2010.  Proper Records launches new website.
Proper Records Limited has a new website for all contemporary artists. www.properuk.com   A new Specific Jazz one is launching in September.  The remaining Properbox sets are still on the old site www.propermusic.com but that will be replaced during 2011.

July 2010.  Larkin’s Jazz box set released.
Proper Records has released a new box set to commemorate the 25th year of Philip Larkin’s death.  He was a well-respected jazz critic for The Daily Telegraph for many years.

July 2010. Proper Music Distribution expands festival sales business.
For many years we have provided CD sales at the Cambridge Folk Festival.  The size of the range we carry has always attracted music buyers who cannot find such a wide variety of folk, world, roots, blues, country and jazz anywhere these days.  The branding has changed to Properganda and we expect to be running this service through the whole of next year’s season including Jazz festivals.  We already did Cheltenham Jazz festival this year among others.

Thanks to all the musicians, friends and associates who showed up to make it such a memorable night for me. 

May 2010.  Specific Sound studio in action.
In between a multitude of tasks, Paul Riley has cut two fine albums in the last couple of months and also recorded the demos for Diana Jones’ forthcoming record.

First out was Jay Phelps.  The young trumpeter has been in with clutch of great material for a new album scheduled for release on Specific Jazz in November 2010.

May saw the Hot Club Of Cowtown steaming through the UK on a tour but leaving enough space to lay down a thirteen track tribute to Bob Wills that will have western swing fans wearing out their dancing shoes.  It’s on the schedule for October 2010 to coincide with their return to the UK for a second tour in a year.

April 2010. Proper Music Publishing: Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band drummers tales from inside.
John “Drumbo” French’s revealing story behind the fabled Magic Band from its inception through all the best bits is published in hardback only by Proper.

April 2010. Proper Music Distribution voted 2010 "Distributor of the Year" For the Second Consecutive Year.

March 2010. Proper Music Publishing: “Last Shop Standing” now in fourth reprint.
Graham Jones’ account of record shops in the UK is now in its fourth reprint in the wake of ongoing interest in the subject.  Graham has appeared on countless radio and tv shows and has tirelessly been following up every promo lead.  The book has also been published in the USA and will shortly be available in Italy – where it has been translated.
